Both anatomy and physiology are subcategories of biology. Throughout our class we have discussed many different systems of the body. One system that is very important to the human body is the muscular system, which consists of three different types of muscle tissue. Along with the muscular system is the skeletal system, which consists of the bones and the different types of tissue it contains. Both of these systems have many different functions, and can be interconnected together. These two systems work together and they form the musculoskeletal system. The muscular system also encompasses many properties. The three different types of muscle tissues it includes are skeletal muscle, cardiac muscle, and smooth muscle. The skeletal muscle’s main function is to move the bones of the skeleton. This muscle is voluntary and is also striated, meaning that it is striped, which is due to the muscle fibers that are combined into parallel fibers. Some of these muscles can be controlled unknowningly. For example, the diaphragm of the human body continues to alternately contract and relax while we are asleep, allowing our lungs to expand to breathe. The cardiac muscle tissue is found only in the heart. It is similar to the skeletal muscle in that it is striated, but it is also different in that it is involuntary. The smooth muscle tissue can be found within the walls of the digestive tract, blood vessels, and airways of the respiratory system. This tissue is nonstriated, which means that it is not striped and the fibers are not arranged into parallel orderly bands like the skeletal and cardiac muscle. The smooth muscle tissue is also involuntary. The muscular system has four key functions. It produces body movements, and stabilizes the body positions, for example, it holds contraction of the neck uscles that hold one’s head upright. Another function of the muscle tissue is that it is the storange and transportation of substances within the body: skeletal muscle contractions move lymph throughout the body, and help return blood to the heart. The final function of the muscle tissue is that it helps to maintain one’s posture. Each skeletal tissue is made of hundreds of t housands of cells called muscle fibers. The fascia is a component of connective tissue and it is a broad sheet of fibrous connective tissue that surrounds and supports muscles and other organs. The external part is the deep fascia that consists of theee layers of connective tissue. The epimysium is the outermost later that encircles the entire muscle. The perimysium surrounds groups of ten to hundereds or more individual muscle fibers, seperating those into bundles called fasicles. Then there is the endomysium, which seperates each individual muscle fiber. The nerve and blood supply of the muscle tissue consists of arteries, veins, and nerves that run together. There are somatic motor neurons that stimulate the muscles to contract. These neurons begin in the brain or spinal cord and extend by an axon to a group of skeletal muscle fibers. All in all, the skeletal muscle tissue contains many vital things, in order for everything to work properly. The skeletal system has many functions as well, just like the muscular system. The skeletal system has six different functions: support, protection, assistance in movement, mineral homeostasis, blood cell production, and triglyceride storage. Unlike the muscular system, posture is not a function of the skeletal system. There are also four types of cells that are present in bone tissue. The first type of cells is the osteogenic cells, which are unspecialized stem cells that are the only bone cells that divide. Another type of cells is the osteoblasts, which are the bone building cells; known as the immature bone cells. Then, there are the osteocytes, which are the mature bone cells and are the main cells in the bone. They exchange nutrients and wastes with the blood, which help maintain the bone’s normal metabolism. Finally, the osteoclasts, which are the cells that release powerful lysosomal enzymes and acids that break down the matrix (resorption). The bone tissue also has nerve and blood supply that also consists of arteries and veins. Although one can claim that there can’t be much inter-relation with the skeletal and muscular system, there are some relations to be made. First of all, vertebrates move by the actions of muscles on bones. Therefore, tendons attach many skeletal muscles across joints, allowing muscle contration to move the bones across the joint. Muscles generally work in pairs to produce movement: when one muscle flexes or contracts, the other relaxes. Next, the skeleton and muscles function together as the musculoskeletal system. This system is often treated as two separate systems, the muscular, and skeletal plays an important homeostatic role: allowing humans to move to more favorable conditions. Certain cells in the bones produce immune cells as well as important cellular components of the blood. Therefore, bone also helps to regulate blood calcium levels, serving as a calcium sink. Finally, the rapid muscular contraction is important in generating internal heat, which is another important function that can relate to bone tissue as well. There are many important systems that we study in anatomy and physiology. The skeletal system and muscular system are just two of them. Both of these systems have many functions that can be studied in depth. Although there are quite a few systems that aren’t very comparable, these two systems make an exception. Overcoming Adversity to Become a Better Person Essay

In every person’s life, facing adversity and overcoming it is one of the biggest challenges that there is. People struggle with different types of adversities and while there some people who manage to overcome them, others are not so lucky and find themselves entangled in a web of problems for their entire lifetime. However, as painful and problematic as they are, adversities are important in that if a person successfully overcomes them, they become stronger in character and as a human being as well. This paper is a discussion of the adversities I have faced as a foreign student having relocated from Saudi Arabia to the United States. The paper will also address family, cultural and personal tradition that are meaningful to my country of origin. Specific adversities I have faced and how these experiences have made me a better person                     One of the major challenges faced by any international student would be the issue of relocating to another country to further one’s studies (Long, 2005).   In my case, it was not any different since I have faced numerous adversities some of which I still struggle to overcome. My country of origin is Saudi Arabia, which means that the major language of communication is Arabic. However, with the relocation to America, this meant that I had to learn English as a second language which is the main language spoken by American citizens. Initially, learning another language was very challenging since the language is not even closely related to Arabic. Communicating with other students in class was very problematic since I could not understand very well what some of them were saying. On the other hand, I would find it difficult to shop for most of the items on the shelves are named in English. Another major adversity I faced is the culture shock of b eing away from an environment and people I had become used to interact with on a daily basis. The culture of Saudi Arabia is very much different from what I have experienced here in the United States. The roles of religion, gender, family and education all differ when I compare them to that of the American culture. In Saudi Arabia, our culture dictates that people should live together in harmony as a family, but in America, this is entirely different. I found it very difficult to adjust to this life since it is not what I was accustomed. However, I have managed to overcome most of these adversities and they have contributed to making me a better person. For instance, now I can speak another language besides Arabic and I have experienced a different culture besides that one of my country. A family, cultural or personal tradition that is meaningful to me                     In Saudi Arabia, the country, mainly comprises of an Islamic culture with almost every citizen being a Muslim (Ham and Madden, 2004).  In this regard, there are many families, cultural or personal traditions that we uphold and believe contribute a lot in defining who we are as a nation (Long, 2005).  One of the most important tradition to us is that women are not allowed to drive in Saudi Arabia. The reason for this is that the Islamic establishment ruled that it is a law that every woman should have a male guardian accompanying them wherever they go (Ham and Madden, 2004).  To us, this tradition is important since it gives the man control over her wife and family. If a woman wants to drive, she can only do so with the permission of her husband who instead prefers to drive her. This way, the Saudi Arabian culture ensures that men are the head of the home while the woman is their helper and has to listen to whatever he says. The person I would like to spend a day with (living, deceased or imaginary) and why                     One of the people I would like to spend a day with must be my grandmother who unfortunately passed on five years ago. She was one of my favorite relative and person that I found interesting to spend time with. She always gave me a lot of advice about life and how I should carry out myself in the presence of other people. In addition, my grandmother guided me to stay strong in my faith in Islam and to never forget to say my usual prayers every day. Moreover, my grandmother was a very good cook who loved preparing delicious meals whenever I went to visit her. After the food was ready, I would help her serve it and we would both enjoy it as she gave me stories about our culture and how it originated. She was a very wise woman who knew a lot of things about life in both the present and the past. If she was alive today, I am sure I would still be enjoying her company very much. In conclusion, struggling to overcome adversities is not very easy but once a person makes to overcome them, they become a much stronger person. In my case, I have learnt to overcome adversities related to relocating to the United States alone, which has made me a much better person. In fact, I have more friends who are not from my country of origin. Furthermore, I have explained why the tradition of women is important to Saudi Arabian citizens since it is one of the ways that men are able to assume total control over their women. I have also cited that my grandmother was one of the people that I would desire to spend more time with, were she alive today. McAdams proposed that evolution provides the general design for psychological individuality against which the socially consequential variations in human lives can be conceived. Human beings have evolved to take note of those variations that are most important for group life, summarized at the broadest level in terms of individual differences in dispositional traits. By sketching out the universe of broad trait dispositions that people in many different cultures use to refer to the most general variations in psychological individuality, the Big Five offers a comprehensive system for organizing basic personality tendencies. Whereas traits provide a dispositional sketch or signature, characteristic adaptations spell out many of the details of psychological individuality as contextualized in time, situations, and social roles. Goals, strivings, coping strategies, values, beliefs, and other motivational, developmental, and social– cognitive versions of characteristic adaptations are activated in response to and ultimately shaped by everyday social demands. You may have been unaware that there ever was a controversy about linguistic purism, or that the issue survives at all. Compared to the impassionate debate about the purity of the English language that raged several centuries ago, it’s nearly as dead as Anglo-Saxon otherwise known as Old English but it is pertinent to how we shape our prose. As early as 150 years ago, English writer William Barnes advocated using a Germanic vocabulary rather than one heavily influenced by Latin (and Greek), believing that such an approach to language would benefit writers who lacked a classical education. Even George Orwell, in the mid-twentieth century, wrote (in the famous essay that inspired this post) â€Å"Bad writers especially scientific, political, and sociological writers are nearly always haunted by the notion that Latin or Greek words are grander than Saxon ones.† Now, however, the sentiment survives only in diluted form, mostly in the welcome trend toward replacing obfuscating prose with plain English. But the writing world is a democratic one, and we therefore remain free (albeit with the intercession of editors) to employ the vocabulary that suits us. Do you have an ache, or a pain? It depends, literally, on how you feel. Do you have a sense of allegiance, or one of fidelity? Either will do, though connotations may differ (the former word often implies adherence to an institution, while fidelity is usually more of an interpersonal concept). Do you activate a beacon, or a signal? Again, divergent meanings have complicated the question, but the terms are largely interchangeable. In each of these pairs of word examples, the first term is of Germanic origin, and the second is from Latin or Greek. Likewise, the Indian company acquired exclusive use of the KISSAN brand name. Francis Mitchell died in 1933 and his elder son, Leonard, became Chairman. After his brothers tragic death in an air accident, Richard took over the chairmanship in 1949 and continued in this capacity until his death in 1987.
